While the astrological focus in August was on the solar eclipse generating evolution in the collective arena, it’s the major transits in the first half of September that set up the areas in life where each of us can witness ourselves expanding over the next 13 to 18 months. The astrology of the month is dominated by Mercury turning direct on the degree of the eclipse, and Jupiter, Rahu & Ketu changing signs.  

Mercury turns direct September 5th.  Once again moving forward through Leo but having gained the insight of retrograde period, it puts our communications in the spotlight and they receive a wonderful splash of charisma.  This is preceded by a jolt of practical vitality Sept 4 & 5 when we can enjoy a welcome boost of energy that counters Saturn’s continued drag from Sidereal Scorpio.  Even though this is a short transit, we can be very productive with our actions lasting over time, as Mercury stations on the degree of the eclipse, so supports longevity to what is produced now.  Depending on your ascendant & moon signs, you could find yourself inspired to take charge in taking care of duties & outstanding tasks (Pisces), home improvements (Taurus) or a career re-vamp (Scorpio).    A side note: these are not the days to react to someone’s attempt to pick a fight or to drive without mindfulness as Mars in planetary war with Mercury combining with the eclipse energy draw volatility and unpredictability into the mix. 

The full moon in Satabishak nakshatra lights up the heavens Sept 6th.  This nakshatra has enormous powers of healing and uncovering what is hidden, even spying. Use the waning moon phase through Sept 19th  to take your healing to the next level.  Psychological techniques, holistic medicine systems like TCM and Ayurveda, and esoteric healing modalities like astrology, are given an enormous energetic boost at this time and will be especially effective, potentially yielding long-term benefits to our expression of personal power.  Find a practitioner who is tuned in on the spiritual and esoteric levels and get to work!

A new 18 month phase of karmic development is ushered in when the lunar nodes, Rahu and Ketu, change signs September 9th with Rahu moving into Cancer and Ketu into Capricorn.  The nodes influence us via unconscious psychological drives and are challenging to predict collectively.  However it’s noticed that when Rahu transits Cancer we generally see a trend towards honoring the divine feminine. There will be lessons around healing and opening our hearts, and intuition can amp up.  Ketu’s shift into Capricorn draws us away from the security of what is structured & predictable.  For Cancer Ascendant & Moons this is a time of profound personal growth that will bring with it the confusion, exhilaration & occasional fears associated with the unfamiliar and ‘faking it til we make it’; partnerships may be challenged by apathy, impatience or letting go.

On September 12th Jupiter leaves its cramped confines in Virgo and move into Libra, a more comfortable placement for Jupiter which channels its optimism, idealism and expansive nature into the agenda of the sign of scales: harmony, fairness, grace & the social contract.  There will be a trend toward more willingness to compromise in relationships and a desire for for ‘win-wins’.   We must consciously maintain clear boundaries over the coming year as there could be tendency toward co-dependency, or giving too much with a resultant backlash of frustration. This is true for all of us but especially Cardinal signs.

The new moon on September 19th will be in the nakshatra of Uttara Phalguni.  This marks the commencement of a 30 day cycle in which to negotiate, sign contracts and generally get your life in order.  There is an urge towards stabilization here, a tone of friendly neutrality and if you write it’s a good time in which to publish your work.  Given that Jupiter and the nodes are changing signs in the early part of the month, when they are considered unsteady or weak, it is strongly recommended to hold off until after this new moon before kicking off new ventures from a legal standpoint.

The profound shifts of the summer will continue into late October, when Saturn goes through gandanta clearing a more inspirational path for us into the winter.
